The anti-poaching team of Wildlife SOS rescued Chotu when he was a tiny, underweight 3 year old sloth bear from a small village in Uttar Pradesh and was brought to his new home at the Agra Bear Rescue Facility. A young and active bear full of enthusiasm, he used to chase all the other bears in the enclosure to make them play with him. He looks forward to playing with Butterball bear as she alone enjoys his teasing and wrestling.

Apart from being one of the healthiest bears in his enclosure weighing 114 kgs, Chotu is also an excellent swimmer and tree climber.  He spends most of his days napping on the bamboo platform accompanied by Bhoopsingh bear. Together they can be seen frolicking out in the dense jungle growth in their enclosure, digging pits in search of termites and ants with amigos Vishnu bear and Ramu bear. Chotu does not get along well with Rani bear and often ends up in small brawls with her during meals. Though he relishes all his meals, watermelons and honey are his favourite.

In the year 2006, Chotu had a history of a recurrent abscess in his lower jaw which was formed due to an infected cavity of a canine wrenched out by his previous owner. He underwent a dental surgery and the infected cavity was drained and treated. After examination to reevaluate the previous dental surgery, the other infected tooth was extracted from the lower jaw to avoid further complications. He has now fully recovered and is doing well.
