This week, Wildlife SOS’ branch in Jammu and Kashmir had the exciting opportunity to set up and run a stall with the objective of raising awareness for their cause at the Farmers Market and Crafts Bazaar, held twice a week, at the famous Almond Villa in Srinagar.

Jyotsana Singh, the daughter of the former Maharaja of the state, Dr. Karan Singh, was gracious enough to invite Wildlife SOS to be a part of the farmers market alongside a host of other people who had set up stalls related to their businesses, displaying their art, craft and food products.

Amongst these, our stall was unique in that it had no items on sale, but instead was providing information and spreading awareness to the people attending the fair. It spoke about conservation efforts pertaining to the wildlife and environment of Jammu and Kashmir.

We had on display a number of books, banners, pamphlets, pictures and posters as well as essays on conservation written by students from the local schools. Our trained team had a great time interacting with a host of people of varying ages and belonging to a range of professions. The team educated them about the importance of their natural heritage and the problems faced by the wildlife and forests of their state, all the while garnering support for the work Wildlife SOS is doing to preserve the same.

We are glad to announce that the event is going to be a regular feature in the coming months, in the hope that we can get our message of conservation to a wider local audience.
