Background history: Sundari was rescued in 2005 from a Kalandar settlement in the state of Karnataka. For almost 12 years, Sundari had to suffer a horrible life of cruelty due to the inhuman ‘Dancing Bear’ tradition. She suffered from agonising pain caused by the constant tugging of rope that was pushed through a pierced hole in her delicate muzzle. She was rehabilitated to Bannerghatta Bear Rescue Centre where she is living a  safer and healthier  life in a near-natural environment.
