Background history : Stolen from her herd as a calf, Ella spent a lifetime away from her natural habitat, starved and beaten into submission to beg for alms and survival at the hands of her cruel owner. A calm and reserved Ella gradually turned temperamental owing to the constant neglect that she suffered which made a lasting impact on her psychological health. When Ella’s tryst with torture concluded in 2013 and she was rehabilitated to the Elephant Rehabilitation Centre, we were stunned to learn about her age and the neglect she suffered!
