MOLLY'S STORY
Wildlife SOS anti-poaching unit Forest Watch and the Jharkhand Forest Department rescued five sloth bears from wildlife traffickers near the Indo-Nepal border in 2019. Among the five bears were two adult bears, with Molly being one of the adults. All bears were rehabilitated at the Agra Bear Rescue Facility.
All five bears had their teeth smashed with metal rods, and coarse ropes were inserted through their muzzles so they could be used for street performances. Upon her arrival at the centre, Molly was placed under quarantine so that the veterinarians could conduct a detailed medical examination. During this time, Molly was introduced to positive conditioning that helped her to adjust to her new life at the centre and ensured maximum comfort to her with regular medical checkups. Molly soon understood that she would be rewarded with her favourite treat for every successful interaction with the veterinarians.
Molly and the rest of the four rescued bears came to be known as the Weasley family, fondly named after the one in the Harry Potter series of books.
