As more and more bears from across the country began to be turned in by their owners, we realized we had a need for a bear rescue centre in eastern India. A new rescue centre was established as more and more Kalandar families started surrendering their bears, and more space was needed to establish a unit for lifelong care.
Wildlife SOS entered into a partnership with the West Bengal State Government; thus the West Bengal Bear Rescue Centre (WBBRC) was born. WBBRC sits on 10 acres of beautiful forest land and it only not only provides lifetime care for the bears, but also provide support for the Kalandar families still living in this part of the country.
