POLLY'S RESCUE STORY

Polly was six years old when she came to the Agra Bear Rescue Facility after being rescued as a ‘dancing’ bear from a Kalandar settlement in West Bengal. By the time she reached the centre, she was severely stressed and displayed signs of stereotypy by aggressive swaying of her head. Our veterinarians knew that they had to give her the time she needed to get comfortable with her new surroundings. Gradually, Polly began to welcome the affectionate care she was receiving at the centre.

A double-levelled wooden log platform in her field is where Polly loves to rest on. She takes long naps under the sun. She is a shy bear, but she enjoys interacting with the bears she shares her enclosure with. Her diet includes a healthy fruit platter of watermelons, sapodillas and papayas, but she has a soft spot for coconuts, and she stops all her activities the moment she sees her caregiver bringing them in. Polly can be heard slurping loudly while taking in her meal of porridge, confirming her absolute love for it!
