Every year the first week of July is celebrated as Van Mahotsav in India. This year Wildlife S.O.S. marked the event with the plantation of over a hundred trees inside the Sur Sarovar Bird sanctuary in Keetham, Agra. On the 2nd of July 2009, Wildlife S.O.S. Agra in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh Forest department and the dist. Panchayat started the tree plantation in the Agra Bear Rescue Facility.
The program was inaugurated by Mr. Omveer Singh Tomar, Dist Panchayat Member facility in presence of Range Forest Officer R B Uttam. Forest guards and other officials were also present. About 115 trees like Bargat, Ficus, Moulsree, Mulberry etc. were planted first inside the Bear Rescue Centre Extension followed by futher planting of trees in the Sur Sarovar Bird sanctuary.
Kartick Satyanarayan, Chairman, Wildlife S.O.S. said “Trees provide food and shelter to the animals. Therefore conservation can never be complete without the protection of both plants and animals. One cannot exist without the other. We at Wildlife S.O.S. firmly believe that the human race can only survive if it learns to live in harmony with both plants and animals and respects their right to existence.”
