On September 29th, a cycle rally was held in coordination with the National Institute of Technology (NIT) and UNICEF.  The theme of the event was Environment and Wildlife:  A Green Action.  About 300 students and teachers participated in the event.

The Vice Chancellor of Kashmir, University Professor Talat Ahmad, commenced the rally with an inspirational speech about the need for people to peacefully coexist with their environment.

Aaliya Mir, the Education Officer for Wildlife SOS also spoke and urged the participants to make everyday a ‘Green Day.’

The rally started from Kashmir University and passed through the Mughal gardens and concluded at the Sheri Kashmir International Convention Center.

The participants competed in a variety of competition including the slow cycle race.  The incentive for this was to help the participants see the connection between slow driving and protecting the environment.

All the participants showed great enthusiasm toward protecting their environment and the organizers all pledged to continue with environmental friendly events in the coming years.

Other dignitaries present were Dr. Rajat Gupta, Director in charge NIT, Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad, Assistant Professor and NSS coordinator NIT, Dr. Farooq Amad Khan, Assistant Professor and NSS coordinator Kashmir Universtiy, Professor Shahid Saleem, Assistant Professor NIT.  We are grateful to them for helping to make this a wonderul event.
