With massive deforestation and man animal conflict becoming an everyday occurrence Wildlife SOS once again played nurse to an injured Leopard that fell prey to mob fury in a village in Haryana.
The young female Leopard, about 2 years old, had strayed into Ahmadbas village in Mewat district of Haryana. The villagers informed the local forest officials but by the time the forest team and the police force reached the spot the crowd had swelled three folds, with people from nearby villages coming to see the Leopard and it became an unruly situation.
Before the authorities could take steps to control the panicking mass, people started chasing the animal. The mob hounded the animal for 6 hours and at last the Leopard fell in to their trap. She was beaten with sticks, tied up with ropes and clothes and would have become another statistic of mob fury but the timely intervention of the Forest Department and the Police saved her life.
She was brought to the Wildlife SOS Gurgaon centre for treatment and recuperation where she was nursed by the Wildlife SOS veterinary team till all her injuries healed and she recovered her strength.
Kartick Satyanarayan, co founder, Wildlife SOS said “The Leopard is a juvenile and looks like she must have lost her way and found herself in a human settlement. She had a lot of bruises and open wounds inflicted by the mob. Our vets treated her, observed and monitored her for a week after which she was released back into the forests.”
