The team of Wildlife SOS at Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre (MLRC) in Maharashtra received a call for the rescue of a hyena severely injured in a road accident at 5.30pm on January 7th, 2014. The hyena had been hit by a speeding vehicle 15km from the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre. The animal had been left paralyzed and stranded by the accident and was therefore unable to move from the accident spot.

Our team rushed to the accident spot and rescued the hyena. The hyena was brought to the clinic inside the rescue centre.

Wildlife SOS veterinarian and wildlife expert Dr Ajay Deshmukh examined the hyena. “The impact of the accident has left the hind legs of the hyena paralyzed. He is at the rescue centre currently undergoing treatment. We have kept him under observation.”

Geeta Seshamani, co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said, “It is painful to see how the animal had been so severely hit that it was left stranded on the road in a case of hit-and-run. Our team at Wildlife SOS in Manikdoh rushed to the spot as soon as we received the call.”
