As more and more bears from across the country began to be turned in by their owners, we realized we had a need in eastern India.
In yet another groundbreaking partnership, this time with the West Bengal State Government, the Purulia Centre was born. Roja, pictured to the left, was the first bear to call this centre home. Today, this our smallest centre, takes care of the least number of bears but is just as important as the other Sanctuaries.
Here, as in the others, we not only care for the bears for the rest of their lives, but provide support for the Kalandar familes who live in this part of India. It sits on 10 acres of beautiful forest land, and capable of caring up to 25 bears.
