Python rescued from DND flyover

Reptiles hibernate in winter as we all know but contrary to beliefs Reptiles also like to come out occasionally and sun themselves in the mild winter sun.

One such reptile – a 12 feet Python was rescued from next to the busy DND flyover. Highway officials had been noticing the huge snake many times over the last couple of months but it always moved away or was in an inaccessible area. But this time the snake had some next to the fence and was sitting over the concrete drainage line. The highway officials immediately informed Wildlife SOS and a team immediately left for the site.

“Pythons are rarely found in Delhi and usually need a large area surrounding a water body for survival. He must have swum the Yamuna and crossed the road to bask in the sun. He looks well fed and has excess stored fat for the hibernation period. He is healthy and presently in our care. We are monitoring him for a couple of days and will release him in a suitable habitat.” said Abhishek Narayan, Wildlife SOS Helpline coordinator.
