The Dachigam Rescue Centre was established by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir and the responsibility for the upkeep of the rescued/abandoned bears was bestowed upon Wildlife SOS since 2007. The Centre at Dachigam currently has four moon bears and one brown bear. The Centre is located at the foothills of Dachigam National Park and serves as a great pleasure for the visitors and students from the educational Institutions who visit the Park. The facility creates positive impacts such as raising awareness among the people on bears which is helpful in mitigating human-bear conflict and the important role they play in maintaining ecological balance. The topography of the Centre and a large number of huge trees inside the enclosures gives the housed animal a perfect environment to camouflage and retain their wild behavior.
The main objective of these interactive sessions is to sensitize the visitors for nature conservation. The live demonstration on various aspects of bear behaviors also helps to negate the various miss conceptions among the people regarding the bears.
