Background history: Torn away from his mother as a calf, Raju was rescued in 2014 from Uttar Pradesh, where he spent decades working as a begging elephant. He would cower at the whip of a bullhook and his pain would be clear for the world to see but his owner just couldn’t care less. When Raju arrived at Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Centre, heavy chains lauded his feet and the spikes from the chains poked at Raju’s legs that caused soaring blisters. | READ MORE ABOUT RAJU | WATCH VIDEO
