I wanted to give you an update about our response to the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has impacted our daily operations. Our Wildlife SOS teams face significant challenges during this extraordinary time, with a lockdown in India, travel restrictions, food shortages and rapidly increasing prices. Our mobile staff and the wide distribution of our sanctuaries and medical facilities create unique challenges.
Rest assured our animal care team continues their dedicated work watching after the elephants, bears, leopards and other animals who depend on us. Our rescue teams have special travel permits so they can continue to spring into action helping displaced and injured wildlife in our communities, and they are doing so carefully while respecting social distancing rules.
As a leader in wildlife conservation, we have planned carefully for emergencies and have weathered floods, tsunamis and other natural disasters. We grow some of the food we feed our animals. We have generators and water purification systems so we can continue our work. We have solar-powered coolers that allow us to store larger quantities of food for longer periods of time. Our amazing staff is accustomed to rising to challenges and creatively overcoming obstacles. As a team we’ll address these unique challenges with the same determination.
Although our core operations continue, we daily face new challenges that are difficult to predict. We will be sure to keep you informed as we work through them in the coming weeks. You are an essential part of the Wildlife SOS team, and with your help, we’ll get through this.
Thank you for your continued support of Wildlife SOS.
