It has been just a few months since our dear Champa, aka Jasmine, was rescued from a life of drudgery and trauma. She now lives surrounded by 4 acres of greenery with her very own paddy field and pond to bathe in. We wanted to make sure we gave you an update on how she’s doing. The short story is that she’s doing amazingly well!
Her old mahout continues to take care of her along with Munna, her new mahout. With a balanced nutritional diet and proper medical treatment Champa has come a long way from the gaunt-framed giant you helped us rescue to a happy, frolicking grand dame who is living her childhood years at this point in life.
From playing tricks on her mahout, to throwing tantrums if her meals are delayed, to making friends with a 3 month old puppy named Tommy, Champa is doing it all. A 4am start to her energy packed and action filled day concludes at 11pm when she lies down for her much-deserved nap. She has charmed everyone with her lively, forthcoming disposition and her quiet strength in the face of past suffering.
There are not too many things we’ve ever seen that warms our heart as much as seeing Champa being free at last. We couldn’t do it without you.
